Day 3 - Digging

Day 3 was full of digging action and tons of dirt. The day started out with the excavator digging the trench for our utilities. Now we are tapped into the sewer and water line. (See pictures below). 

We had fill sand hauled in to go over the utilities in the area where the driveway will be. The sand will prevent our concrete from settling in areas where the soil was disturbed. (See below). 

After the utilities were connected, the excavator began smoothing out our backyard to create a gentle grade off of the future walkout basement area. Then he dug out the back half of our basement. 

Tomorrow the excavator will come finish the digging of the basement. He will also work with our foundation contractor to ensure the garage is excavated flawlessly. Due to the grade being built up so much in the garage, this step is very important to ensure our garage walls are strong and retain appropriately.
